Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll ever make. While the mortgage process may seem overwhelming, avoiding a few common mistakes can make things much smoother. Here are the top three to watch out for.

1. Opening New Credit Accounts

It might be tempting to finance new furniture or apply for a credit card, but doing so can hurt your credit score and change your debt-to-income ratio. This could put your loan approval at risk. Wait until after closing to make big purchases.

2. Making Large Deposits Without Documentation

Lenders need to see a clear paper trail for your money. If you deposit a large amount of cash without explanation, it can delay your approval. Always be prepared to show where funds came from—especially for your down payment.

3. Poor Communication with Your Lender

The mortgage process moves quickly, and missing a request for documents can cause delays. Stay in touch with your mortgage lender in Chico, CA, and respond promptly to keep everything on track.

Final Thoughts

Buying a home doesn’t have to be stressful. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can move forward with confidence. As a local mortgage advisor, my role is to guide you step by step so there are no surprises.
